Electric Dune Buggy
When I was searching for an electric dune buggy for my son online, I was shocked at the lack of information out there. The price tags for many of these vehicles for “kids” were pretty astronomical. I had a really hard time finding an electric kids dune buggy that wasn’t $500 or more.
The ones I came across were geared more for teens and adults and cost anywhere from $700 to thousands. Most of the ones I found were able to get up to speeds I considered pretty dangerous for 5 – 12 yr. olds.
I really wanted something that was a green alternative to the typical gas powered mini dune buggy. Besides being more environmentally friendly, I didn’t want my son and his friends breathing all those toxic exhaust fumes.
I also had to ask myself what the difference was between a dune buggy and a go kart. For starters, a kids dune buggy has a higher ground clearance than a typical go kart. The mini dune buggy is more suited to uneven, softer surfaces like gravel, dirt and grass. It has larger rubber knobby tires for better traction and clearance.
Usually a go kart is more specifically built for speed on flat, even surfaces with lower ground clearance. They generally have smaller smoother tires for sliding or “drifting” when you go around curves.
It seemed like the kids electric dune buggy made a good transition vehicle for my son since he was graduating from kids electric ride ons like his Peg Perego John Deere Gator. He wasn’t quite ready for the speed and power of a gas powered go kart dune buggy.
I was also impressed by my research about the Razor company that makes the electric dune buggy that I ended up buying. Razor has been around since 2000 and is known for creating innovative, high quality, durable toys that get kids out of the house for some fresh air and good old fashioned play. They started out with the wildly popular kick scooter and have continued to develop cutting-edge products with strict safety standards.
